Nature Journaling: Observing God’s Creation
Welcome to your nature journal!
This is a place to slow down, notice the world around you, and reflect on God’s wonderful creation. Your journal will help you see patterns, make observations, ask questions, and grow in awe of the Creator.
1. Observation Section
Encourage students to use their senses. You could provide a simple table or prompts like:
| Date | Location | Weather | Sight | Sound | Smell | Thoughts/Feelings |
Tips:
Look closely at plants, animals, and the sky.
Listen for birds, rustling leaves, or running water.
Notice colors, shapes, and textures.
Write down any feelings or questions that arise.
2. Guided Reflection Questions
After making observations, students can reflect on God as Creator. Examples:
What does this part of creation teach me about God?
How does this animal/plant/sky display God’s wisdom or creativity?
How does noticing these details make me feel about God’s care and provision?
Can I see God’s order or design in this part of nature?
How might this observation inspire me to take care of creation?
3. Optional Activities
Sketch what you see, or press a leaf/flower in your journal.
Compare the same location over time—what changes with the seasons?
Collect small, natural items (stones, leaves, pinecones) and label them.
Write a short poem or prayer inspired by what you noticed.
Nature is a window to God's heart. The more we notice, the more we see His wisdom, creativity, and care reflected all around us.
Teacher/Parent Notes
Encourage journaling at least once or twice a week.
Remind students: There’s no “right” way—God made them to see and think uniquely.
Use reflections to spark discussions about science, design, and faith.
